Restaurant Schattbuch: MICHELIN star shines in its eighth year

AMTZELL - The MICHELIN Guide has once again awarded the Schattbuch restaurant in Amtzell a star. Since 2016, it has been one of the few starred restaurants in the Lake Constance-Upper Swabia region.

Every year, Germany's gourmets and top chefs eagerly await the selection of the MICHELIN Guide, and now the 2024 award-winning restaurants have been announced. For the first time, there are 340 nationwide, more than ever before. Across the country, 73 restaurants received an award, three fewer than last year. Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, praised German gastronomy at the star ceremony in the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce: "It is thanks to their perseverance, their wealth of ideas and their tireless drive that gastronomy throughout the country continues to demonstrate a consistently high standard." The entire team of inspectors confirms the remarkable development of the restaurants - despite the difficult economic times - which, with their culinary diversity and undiminished high standard, make people want to eat out. This also applies to the Schattbuch restaurant in Amtzell.

The team led by owner Hermann Müller, head chef Sebastian Cihlars and restaurant manager Christian Marz can continue to count itself among the top restaurants in the country and can look back on a successful test season. Since the end of 2023, guests at the Schattbuch can once again enjoy a business lunch on Tuesdays. There has also been a conceptual innovation in the evening service: in addition to the classic and vegetarian menu, the menu now offers constantly changing à la carte dishes that can be swapped for intermediate or main courses from the menu, ordered individually or additionally. "We want to offer our regular guests more variety, but also appeal to gourmets who don't always want to visit the grand opera in several acts," explains restaurant manager Christian Marz.

At the same time, the young audience is not lost sight of. The Schattbuch team is joining several gastronomic colleagues in offering a menu for all young gourmets under the age of 30 at a special price of 99 euros. "Our offer is aimed at young gourmets who appreciate culinary delights and celebrate star cuisine," says head chef Sebastian Cihlars, adding: "We are still endeavouring to reach as wide a circle of guests as possible and to inspire them to enjoy good food. After all, the motto of the campaign 'Young, wild and hungry' also applies to our team." The "YoungStar" menu, consisting of three courses, two glasses of wine, an aperitif, coffee and water, can be ordered by prior reservation from Tuesday to Saturday. A valid proof of age is required.

Despite the difficult economic situation, the Schattbuch is looking to the future with confidence. The team is currently well staffed again in all positions, which gives reason to hope for further positive developments in terms of opening hours. "Our team works and continues to work hard - service after service, menu after menu, year after year. The star motivates us to continue on this path with determination," Cihlars continues. "A star like this doesn't just fall from the sky," says owner Hermann Müller, who also recognises the significance of the renewed recognition. "It is the result of a fine interplay of cuisine and service, food and wine, quality and creativity. That's why it fills us with pride, but also humility, that we have been able to successfully maintain our star for eight years now."
