The best restaurants in Munich
JAN, München (Germany)
Chef and owner Jan Hartwig offers innovative and creative cuisine in the heart of Munich, between the Kunstareal and the urban vibrancy of Maxvorstadt. Under the direction of Kilian Skalet, JAN welcomes guests with charming professionalism and takes them on an unforgettable journey through the dishes from the laboratory of love.
Tantris, München (Germany)
Like the Olympic roof or the television tower, the Tantris restaurant in Munich Schwabing is a living original from the 1970s: It stands for over forty years of star gastronomy and world-class architecture, but above all it is a place of joie de vivre. Even before the darkly alluring façade of sheet metal and concrete, the stone mythical creatures by Swiss artist Bruno Weber point the way to another world. The term “sacred halls” is by no means absurd, as their creator, the architect and now retired professor Justus Dahinden, is primarily famous for his cathedrals. In addition to the highest standards, the humor and passion of the founder, Fritz Eichbauer, are very much present. Two wine cellars with 550 varieties and 50,000 bottles round off this cult object. This makes Tantris one of the most traditional fine dining restaurants in Germany. After Eckart Witzigmann, Heinz Winkler and Hans Haas and a modernization of the house, Benjamin Chmura has now taken over the management of the kitchen.
Tohru in der Schreiberei, München (Germany)
Under the direction of chef Tohru Nakamura, the Tohru restaurant at the Schreiberei in Munich offers a fusion of Japanese and European cuisine. The dishes are creative, innovative and of the highest quality.
Alois, München (Germany)
The Alois sees itself as a contemporary fine dining restaurant with light, contemporary product cuisine presented in an informal atmosphere. Relaxed enjoyment in an ambience that effortlessly combines serenity and sophistication.
The superb wines recommended by Julien Morlat also come from the delicatessen's excellently stocked wine cellar. He has over 800 different wines to choose from and, with great stylistic confidence, always provides surprising moments that make a visit to the Alois special.
Atelier, München (Germany)
The intimate atmosphere of the restaurant, created by the renowned Belgian art dealer Axel Vervoordt with a luxuriously simple design, exudes the exciting flair of an artist's studio. The whole ensemble is rounded off with the aperitif bar behind a mobile wall designed by Dirk Vander Eecken. Since November 2021, the restaurant has been under the kitchen management of Anton Gschwendtner (formerly Olivo**, Stuttgart).
KOMU, München (Germany)
A place to meet and enjoy with all the senses. On the one hand, the Restaurant KOMU in München is all about perfectly balanced culinary experiences - but on the other, it is also about returning to the core of eating as a unifying experience.
Werneckhof, München (Germany)
Since July 2021, owner and Chef de Cuisine Sigi Schelling has been rewriting the history of the traditional Werneckhof in Munich. After 14 years as sous chef to legendary Michelin-starred chef Hans Haas at Tantris, she has brought the restaurant back to life. She remains true to her cooking style, a classic, product-oriented, seasonal, sustainable and light cuisine.
Les Deux, München (Germany)
At Les Deux, the name says it all. Fabrice Kieffer, restaurant manager at Heinz Winkler for many years, decided to make a fresh start in 2013 and opened Les Deux in the Schäfflerhof. Fabrice Kieffer is considered the James Bond of maîtres and delights guests with his wit, charm and famous French nonchalance. His team cooks modern French cuisine with a Japanese accent, straightforward, refined and using only the very best products. The 700-strong wine list rounds off a visit to the restaurant.
Tantris DNA, München (Germany)
The Tantris DNA in the building of the legendary Tantris in Munich - also under the direction of chef Benjamin Chmura - stands for classic French cuisine of the highest standard in a casual, relaxed atmosphere.
Sparkling Bistro, München (Germany)
The Sparkling Bistro in Munich, under the direction of Austrian chef Jürgen Wolfsgruber, offers guests a sophisticated blend of innovative cuisine and traditional gourmet craftsmanship. For over ten years, the restaurant has been delighting gourmets with exceptional dishes and a perfect balance of modern fine dining, regional sustainability and tradition.
