This year, the list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants will be unveiled in the Peruvian capital, Lima. This underlines the city’s growing reputation as a major gastronomic destination: The awards ceremony, which takes place on 4 November, will be hosted in Lima for the first time, in partnership with the Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism (PromPerú), an agency of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism. This marks the debut of the prestigious global event in South America.
Lima previously hosted the first edition of ‘Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants’ in 2013; since then, the city’s culinary scene has continued to evolve, with an increasing number of the region’s finest restaurants securing a place on the list.

Peru, a country renowned for its millennia-old culture, biodiversity and gastronomy, has increasingly established itself as a world-class culinary destination on the global stage. Most recently, at the ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025’ awards ceremony in Turin (Italy), the restaurant ‘Maido’ in Lima was named the best restaurant in the world – making it the second Peruvian restaurant to claim the coveted top spot in the last three years. ‘Maido’ now joins the ‘Best of the Best’ Hall of Fame, which includes former top-ranked restaurants, and is therefore no longer eligible for the 2026 ranking or subsequent years.

An extensive programme of events – supported by the host partner PromPerú – will build up to the eagerly awaited awards ceremony on 4 November 2026, when ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026’ ranking will be unveiled. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the capital – a destination shaped by cultural traditions and recognised worldwide for its diverse and influential culinary scene. Here, local ingredients and regional influences blend to create a distinctive and constantly evolving culinary identity. Rikki Tidball, Managing Director of Events at ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants’, says: “We are delighted to be bringing the ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants’ awards ceremony to South America for the first time in November 2026. Peru is a destination that perfectly embodies the spirit of this award; here, a rich cultural heritage stretching back centuries has given rise to one of the world’s most exciting gastronomic scenes. Together with our partner PromPerú, we look forward to bringing the international community together and celebrating the world-class excellence that makes Peru one of the most influential and talked-about culinary destinations today.”

Berthin Enrique Gómez Vela, Peru’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Tourism, explains: “The selection of Lima as the host city for ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants’ marks a historic milestone for Peru. It reflects the ongoing efforts of the Peruvian Government, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, and PromPerú to establish the country as one of the world’s leading destinations for gastronomy and tourism. The fact that this prestigious event is coming to our capital is the result of a long-term vision: we want to showcase the richness of our cuisine, the diversity of our local produce and the talent throughout the entire value chain – the very factors that have earned Peruvian gastronomy worldwide recognition today. Gastronomy has become one of the most important drivers of travel inspiration and attracts visitors seeking authentic experiences linked to our culture, our biodiversity and our traditions. Hosting this event in Lima places Peru at the centre of the global gastronomic dialogue, whilst also providing a positive boost to the entire hospitality and tourism sector. “Our cuisine is now far more than just a source of national pride; it is a powerful driver of development that continues to position Peru as a leading destination for international culinary tourism.”

Highlights of the programme in Peru include a series of key events that form the centrepiece of the ‘50 Best Restaurants’ celebrations: the #50BestTalks thought-leadership forum, which addresses the most pressing issues currently facing the gastronomy industry; the “50 Best Signature Sessions” – a series of community events open to the public, where chefs from restaurants featured on the “50 Best” list collaborate with renowned local talent to create exclusive culinary experiences; the ‘Chefs’ Feast’, which showcases the region’s top-quality ingredients and cooking techniques; and the awards ceremony itself and the countdown. In the run-up to the event in November, various special awards will also be announced to recognise the achievements of individuals and establishments.
