Obendorfers’ two-star restaurant, with new management, international culinary expertise and a new brand identity

NEUNBURG VORM WALD. Continuity through development: the two-star restaurant EISVOGEL in the Upper Palatinate is continuing its unwavering commitment to quality and making targeted investments in the future. With a strengthened management structure in front-of-house, international expertise in the kitchen and a new brand identity, the restaurant is sharpening its profile as an exceptional culinary destination and underlining its commitment to providing a holistic experience of culinary excellence. At the heart of this is the vision of owner and head chef Sebastian Obendorfer, whose modern fusion cuisine has for years been synonymous with a distinctive style, artisanal precision and creative, ingredient-led cooking. For Obendorfer, top-class cuisine means far more than just excellent dishes: “An exceptional restaurant experience only comes about when the cuisine, service, atmosphere and attitude work together perfectly. That is exactly what we work on every day. And we want to get better every day.”

Jana Kiefer takes over as restaurant manager

A key element of this development is the appointment of Jana Kiefer as restaurant manager. A proven expert in restaurant management, she brings with her many years’ experience from Germany’s top-tier gastronomy scene and will in future be responsible for the operational management of guest services as well as the further development of the overall restaurant experience. Most recently, Kiefer was part of the management team at the two-star restaurant Esplanade in Saarbrücken, which set new standards in service organisation with a modern approach to restaurant management. Prior to that, she gained extensive experience in the upmarket hotel sector and Michelin-starred restaurants, and is regarded as a specialist in excellent service, staff development and the combination of the highest professionalism and authentic hospitality. “Jana embodies precisely the ethos that sets our establishment apart: the highest standards of quality, a great passion for hospitality and an eye for every detail,” says Sebastian Obendorfer, delighted with the new addition to the Eisvogel team. “With her experience, she will play a decisive role in shaping the holistic development of Eisvogel.”

Reinforcements with international expertise in the kitchen

The kitchen team is also gaining a top-class addition: Maximilian Sommer is joining the Eisvogel team, bringing with him international experience from some of the world’s most renowned kitchens. Most recently, the German chef worked as a line cook at the world-famous three-Michelin-starred restaurant Eleven Madison Park in New York. Prior to that, his career took him through several top European restaurants, including the multi-award-winning Cheval Blanc.

His experience at the very highest international level complements Obendorfer’s creative style and provides fresh impetus for the ongoing development of the kitchen. “Our philosophy thrives on the exchange of diverse perspectives and experiences. Maximilian brings international expertise that enriches our cuisine and opens up new culinary dimensions for our guests,” says Obendorfer,

New brand identity

Alongside these personnel developments, the Eisvogel restaurant will in future present itself with a refined brand identity. The new visual identity consistently translates the restaurant’s identity into an emotional brand world and positions the restaurant even more strongly as an exclusive culinary destination in the Upper Palatinate Lake District. At the heart of this is the kingfisher, which lends its name to the restaurant and symbolises its culinary philosophy.

The kingfisher stands for tranquillity and precision, for lightness and energy – qualities that are reflected in every visit. Guests enter a place of pause, serenity and mindfulness. The first amuse-bouche marks the start of a culinary journey that combines lightness and depth, guiding the guest step by step into a world of the finest flavours, surprising contrasts and extraordinary moments of indulgence.

The Eisvogel identity unites two apparent opposites into a distinctive identity: groundedness and expansiveness, stillness and inspiration, tranquillity and creative dynamism. It is from this balance that the special atmosphere arises which defines the character of the Eisvogel with its fusion cuisine. Sebastian Obendorfer sums up this world in a single phrase: ‘an atmosphere of indulgence’.

For Obendorfer, the new staff appointments and the new brand identity are an expression of a clear strategic direction: “Excellence is never a static state. It arises from the willingness and dedication to continually develop, to embrace new perspectives whilst remaining true to one’s own signature style. Our aim is to develop the Eisvogel not merely as a two-star restaurant, but as a holistic culinary destination that touches guests emotionally, inspires them in the long term and creates a unique atmosphere of indulgence.” Through this consistent development, the Eisvogel is sending a clear signal about the future of fine dining: international quality, exceptional hospitality and an unmistakable identity merge to create an experience that resonates far beyond the restaurant visit itself.
