Villa Florhof opens in Zurich

ZURICH. Lalique opened Villa Florhof on 1 August 2026. It is the Maison’s first boutique hotel in Zurich and the latest addition to the Lalique Hospitality Collection. Situated between the historic old town and the university district, the hotel comprises 13 rooms and suites. With this new retreat, Lalique has transformed a building with more than five centuries of history into a modern urban boutique hotel, creating a place where historic architecture meets contemporary craftsmanship, gastronomy and design.

The listed property on Florhofgasse dates back to the 15th century and, from the 16th century onwards, was closely linked to Zurich’s flourishing silk trade. It was restored in close consultation with the relevant heritage conservation authorities. As a result, Villa Florhof today effortlessly combines the building’s cultural heritage with Lalique’s standards of design and savoir-faire.

A historic house, reimagined

Unlike a classic grand hotel, Villa Florhof focuses on the personal atmosphere of an intimate private home. The 13 individually designed rooms and suites are inspired by the artistic world of René Lalique. At the heart of it all is the René Lalique Suite, where historic architecture meets contemporary design. Green & Mingarelli Design is responsible for the interior design. The design preserves the building’s historic character whilst creating a sophisticated, homely atmosphere. Bespoke furniture from Lalique Maison complements the carefully restored architectural features.

At Villa Florhof, crystal is not merely a decorative element, but an integral part of the architecture. The Lalique Interior Design Studio has designed more than a dozen bespoke installations made of crystal and architectural glass exclusively for this project. Silk moth motifs and mulberry leaves, inspired by René Lalique’s iconic creations, pay homage to Zurich’s historic silk production and recur as design elements throughout the entire house. They feature in illuminated crystal panels, sculptural light fittings and architectural room dividers. The installations are complemented by handcrafted details throughout the villa.

Key installations include the staircase and ceiling of the future signature restaurant, both of which have been adorned with illuminated crystal silk moths. The ensemble is complemented by a curated selection of butterfly artworks by Damien Hirst, created in collaboration with Lalique.

Bar, Brasserie and Signature Restaurant

From the opening, the Bar & Brasserie will be open to both hotel guests and members of the public. It is open all day and features a peaceful, spacious garden terrace for lunch, aperitifs and dinner in a relaxed atmosphere. Under the direction of Head Chef John Schiffmann, the focus is on high-quality ingredients and cuisine that is both uncomplicated and refined. In late autumn 2026, the Signature Restaurant will also open on the first floor of the villa. From there, guests can enjoy a direct view of the picturesque historic quarter.
