Restaurant review

The Jane, Antwerp

Belgium, Antwerpen, Forum

"Same, same but different. And we’re perfectly happy with that."

Forum member Thomashaj says: “A menu that seamlessly builds on the standard we’ve come to expect from the former ‘The Jane’. Nick Bril skilfully incorporates flavours from around the world into his dishes, in which regional produce often plays a key role. The preparations are still highly complex, yet clearly designed to create harmonious underlying flavours; his sauces are masterful and, quite literally, good enough to spoon out. In that respect, not much has really changed. Whether it is actually the case, as Nick Bril tells us, that after more than 10 years at the old location he had reached his creative limits and expects the move to bring about a further evolution of his cuisine remains to be seen. The central kitchen in the middle of the dining area, with its open fire and direct contact with guests, seems to be inspiring him, at least. The magic that defined the old ‘The Jane’ was the combination of fabulous cuisine, an impressive ambience, superb service and music. The fascinating sense of space in the historic chapel has given way to a more understated style, which nevertheless feels pleasant. Everything else has remained the same. Seen in this light, one could say: same, same but different. And we’re perfectly happy with that.” (Published in April 2026)
