In July 2026, the restaurant rankings for Germany are led by a pair of establishments. The Rutz in Berlin and the Schwarzwaldstube in Baiersbronn share first place. Both restaurants have 118.9 points. They have been joint leaders of the rankings since January 2026. Restaurant JAN in Munich, with which they had shared first place since then, has slipped to fourth place. However, the gap is extremely narrow at just 0.5 points. Schanz in Piesport, which had previously been in fifth place, has moved up to third place.

This is due to adjustments to the weighting of the restaurant guides. As the Michelin Guide no longer awards the Green Star, no points are now awarded for it. Furthermore, the Opinionated About Dining (OAD) rankings have been reweighted. Previously, points were awarded based on a restaurant’s position within the European OAD rankings. As the two OAD lists (“Top Restaurants” and “Classic Restaurants”) are of different lengths, this led to distortions in the assessment. A 100th-place finish in the Top Restaurants list is a top result, whilst the same ranking in the significantly shorter Classic list already represents a lower position. In future, we will therefore filter the list to include only German restaurants and calculate the points based on their ranking in comparison with other German restaurants within the respective OAD rankings.

Despite this issue, we are continuing to take the OAD into account, as we believe that the removal of Gault&Millau Germany from the top 100 would result in the loss of too many supporting ratings, leading to other disadvantages. We will compensate for exceptional cases, such as the absence of top restaurants from the OAD list, by again discarding the two lowest scores in 2026. We are confident that this measure will enable us to publish a transparent and objective restaurant ranking once again this year. We sincerely hope that Gault Millau for Germany will once again find a publisher that operates responsibly, so that in 2027 we can further review and improve the weightings and the guides used.

This update takes into account 185 changes recorded in June 2026. As a result of these changes, the JAN loses the advantage of its top position in the OAD ranking, as it now receives the same number of points as a number of other restaurants.

As a result of this change, the Bareiss in Baiersbronn has moved up from sixth to fourth place. This also marks a new personal best in our restaurant rankings. Sixth place is now occupied by Victor’s Fine Dining by Christian Bau in Perl-Nennig. It has dropped one place, as has Restaurant Sonnora in Dreis, which now lies in seventh place. The remaining three places in the top 10 are shared, on equal points, by ES:SENZ in Grassau, Haerlin in Hamburg and Tohru in der Schreiberei in Munich, which jointly occupy eighth place.

The new three-star restaurant L.A. Jordan in Deidesheim has climbed from 28th to 16th place following its upgrade in the Michelin Guide, thereby achieving a new personal best. Ösch Noir in Donaueschingen, at number 31, and Lakeside in Hamburg, at number 37, have also achieved their best-ever rankings within the top 50. ATAMA by Martin Stopp in St. Ingbert enters the top 50 for the first time at number 44. The same applies to THE CLOUD by Käfer at BMW Welt in Munich, which has risen from 64th to 45th place.

In addition, the following restaurants have achieved new personal bests within the top 100: the Sparkling Bistro in Munich at number 78 and the Oben in Heidelberg at number 92. Also achieving new personal bests and making it into the top 100 for the first time, sharing 97th place, are Tisane in Nuremberg and Rausch in Frankfurt.

Details of the calculation method and how many ranking points the restaurant guides’ ratings yield can be found here. A total of 4,365 restaurants are currently included in the ranking. That is 13 fewer than in June. Compared with the previous month, 116 restaurants have received a higher score or have been newly included in the ranking. The Dune in Frankfurt has accumulated the most points within a single month. 145 restaurants have received a lower score than in the previous month.

Inclusion in the ranking is automatic and free of charge as soon as a restaurant is reviewed in one of the major restaurant guides and achieves at least 35 ranking points. The restaurant that has accumulated the most points over the past twelve months is also The Cloud by Käfer in Munich – ahead of Rausch in Frankfurt am Main and the Ostseelounge in Dierhagen.
