Seeking the ‘Rising Star of the Year’

Once again this year, DER FEINSCHMECKER magazine is looking for the ‘Rising Star of the Year’ among chefs. The shortlist features seven young chefs, all of whom are in their early 30s at most. They were selected because their positive development and innovative style caught the magazine’s attention.
They are:
- Fritz Benson (25): He opened Theodor’s in Bonn at the end of 2023
- Egor Hopp (31): Head chef at Restaurant Setzkasten in Düsseldorf since 2023
- Jonas Merold (32): Has been running the Merold restaurant in Berlin-Neukölln since 2021
- Marita Rempel (27): Head chef at Restaurant Gui in Bielefeld since 2025
- Johannes Steingrüber (30): Head chef at Harzfenster in Seesen since 2021
- Tim Striegel (25): Head chef at ‘Das Philippin’ in Rutesheim since the end of 2024
- Daniel Wallenstein (33): Executive chef at Hotel Die Reichsstadt in Gengenbach since the end of 2025; since November 2026, he has also run his own fine-dining restaurant, MOYA – by Daniel Wallenstein
The results are due to be published in issue 10/2026.
