The standard of Japanese cuisine in Munich – indeed, throughout Germany – is sobering. Authentic sushi is hard to come by; instead, the scene is dominated by run-of-the-mill concepts and substandard quality. Not even in Germany’s three largest cities – Berlin, Hamburg and Munich – is there a single Japanese restaurant with a Michelin star; New York alone has 19.
