Michelin is discontinuing the green star
PARIS. The Michelin Guide is discontinuing the green star, which recognised restaurants for their sustainability. It is being replaced by a new editorial concept entitled “Mindful Voices”, the Michelin Guide has announced. The aim is to shine a spotlight on individuals who, through their commitment and work, are breaking new ground in the restaurant, hotel and wine sectors.
Most recently, the Michelin Guide had expanded its portfolio to include the hotel industry and viticulture, and significantly broadened its international presence to cover more than 60 destinations. This is where Mindful Voices comes in: it reflects this diversity and focuses on chefs, hoteliers and wine producers who share their inspiring approaches and are committed to the responsible development of their industry.
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide, explains: “Mindful Voices gives a voice to all those who are breaking new ground in their respective fields. This new concept reflects what our inspectors experience on the ground: inspiring encounters with people from the restaurant, hotel and wine sectors. We want to share their stories and give their voices greater weight, in keeping with the DNA and values of the Michelin Guide.” Consequently, the green star will no longer be awarded
New concept to be rolled out worldwide
The aim is to put the spotlight not only on places worldwide, but also on the people who shape these places, drive innovation and stand for doing things differently. In this way, the Mindful Voices will be showcased
across all Michelin Guide platforms, both digital (web, app, social media) and in print, through profiles from the worlds of gastronomy, hospitality and viticulture
in the Michelin Guide magazine with feature articles dedicated to these individuals
at selected events in which these personalities take part
Launch on 1 June 2026
The Mindful Voices concept will be unveiled at the Michelin Guide awards ceremony for the Nordic countries on 1 June 2026 in Copenhagen (Denmark). Selected voices will also be given a platform at future events – including the Michelin Guide ceremony for Germany on 23 June in Frankfurt. It will launch at European level in 2026 and will then be rolled out worldwide, initially for the restaurant industry and subsequently for the hotel and wine sectors.
