Restaurant review
Mont Bar, Barcelona
“I really enjoyed the menu at Mont Bar. It was a flawless culinary performance, showcasing tapas culture at its finest. The dishes stay true to the natural flavours of the ingredients used. All the combinations and proportions are just right. There are few surprises, but plenty of relaxed enjoyment, thanks in part to the restaurant’s overall very pleasant, lively atmosphere. The unpretentious dishes fit perfectly with the ambience, which is upmarket for a tapas bar yet unassuming for a gourmet restaurant. This is a restaurant I would always include in my visits to Barcelona, partly because, unlike innovative restaurants, it doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, but instead offers a quality of flavour that I find more contemporary than the technical displays of the highly or higher-rated restaurants. I would certainly rate this menu as being at an above-average one-star level. A year after my visit, the Michelin Guide upgraded the restaurant to two stars. I wouldn’t have predicted that after my visit in autumn 2024. Unless there has been a significant development since then, my recommendation would be to go there with a one-star expectation; then you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised and impressed, and that, to me, better suits the character of the restaurant as I perceived it during my visit.” (Published in January 2026)
