Evvai and Tuju in São Paulo receive top ratings for the first time

The Michelin Guide Brazil reviews 149 restaurants

(17 April 2026) – The Michelin Guide has published its new restaurant ratings for Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The 2026 edition is a testament to Brazil’s vibrant and ever-evolving culinary scene, the tyre manufacturer announced. The 2026 selection includes twelve exciting new entries, underscoring the country’s dynamic culinary progress. Of particular note is a historic milestone: the two São Paulo restaurants , Evvai and Tuju , have been awarded three stars. This outstanding achievement not only elevates the two restaurants to the pinnacle of international gastronomy but also makes them the first in the whole of Latin America to receive this honour.

From a culinary perspective, the inspectors noted that Brazil’s gastronomic identity is deeply rooted in its authentic flavours and local ingredients. At the same time, international cuisines such as Italian and Japanese continue to enjoy great popularity and delight diners across the country. The Michelin Guide also noted significant improvements in the area of service. Teams, often comprising highly qualified and attentive professionals, are setting new standards with their expertise and dedication, thereby enriching the entire culinary experience for our guests.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide, said of this landmark edition: “I am delighted to announce that the Michelin Guide Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo 2026 will be remembered as a historic milestone. For the first time, we have been able to celebrate the outstanding achievements of three-star restaurants in Latin America. This extraordinary success, led by the restaurants Evvai and Tuju in São Paulo, firmly establishes Brazil as a first-class gastronomic destination and invites food lovers from all over the world to enjoy unforgettable culinary adventures.”

Three stars

The award for the restaurants Evvai and Tuju in São Paulo marks a turning point for Brazilian gastronomy. With three stars, these establishments set new standards and join the ranks of the world’s most renowned restaurants. Their successes not only highlight the artistry of their cuisine but also position Brazil as an absolute must for food lovers.

  • Evvai, São Paulo: Head chef Luiz Filipe is a culinary visionary who masterfully blends his Brazilian and Italian heritage in every dish. His creative genius is evident in the Oriundi tasting menu, a tribute to cultural exchange that celebrates the vibrant flavours and traditions of both countries. The menu begins with refined starters, inspired by the rich colours of Brazil and Italy, and unfolds into a symphony of flavours and textures. Signature dishes such as the white moqueca stew with squid and pupunha, or the ever-evolving scallop bomb, illustrate his innovative approach to gastronomy. Each dish is accompanied by a unique illustration, hand-drawn by the chef himself, offering guests a glimpse into the stories and inspirations behind each dish.
  • Tuju, São Paulo: In a breathtaking, three-storey architectural masterpiece, chef Ivan Ralston offers an immersive culinary experience that begins the moment you step into the restaurant. On the ground floor, guests are welcomed with elegant starters, a carefully curated wine cellar and a tranquil courtyard garden. On the first floor, the open kitchen takes centre stage, surrounded by cosy tables that invite guests to witness the culinary magic up close. The second floor features a spacious bar with breathtaking views – the perfect spot for a drink before or after your meal. Head chef Ivan Ralston guides guests through the cuisine with exceptional care and creativity. By combining seasonal Brazilian ingredients with cutting-edge techniques, he creates dishes that are bold, imaginative and deeply connected to the rhythms of nature. The tasting menu evolves with the seasons and draws inspiration from Brazil’s diverse climates – from humidity and rain to wind and dry spells – resulting in a culinary experience that is as dynamic as it is unforgettable.

Two stars

Three two-star restaurants retain their awards. In this prestigious category, which recognises establishments with exceptional cuisine, the restaurants D.O.M (São Paulo), Lasai ( Rio de Janeiro) and Oro ( Rio de Janeiro) are honoured. These restaurants have successfully defended their stars following a year of remarkable achievements. Their commitment and creativity remain an invaluable source of inspiration for the culinary world, according to the Michelin Guide.

One star

The Michelin Guide Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo 2026 welcomes a new member to its prestigious one-star category. This brings the total number of starred restaurants in both cities to 19.

  • Madame Olympe, Rio de Janeiro: Chefs Claude Troisgros and Jéssica Trindade create an exceptional culinary experience at this restaurant in the elegant Leblon district of Rio de Janeiro. Their culinary vision harmoniously combines French expertise, the finest Brazilian ingredients and subtle influences from Japanese cuisine. The restaurant’s modern ambience blends perfectly with the two tasting menus: an opulent eight-course menu and a more compact four-course option. Among the standout dishes is the duck breast, served with palm hearts, samphire, tucupi and cauliflower. Head chef Claude Troisgros, a French master chef with over 45 years’ experience in Brazil, continues to draw inspiration from the country’s diverse local ingredients, making this culinary experience a true highlight.

Bib Gourmand

If there is one award that delights food lovers worldwide, it is the Bib Gourmand. Symbolised by the iconic Bibendum, relishing a meal, this award recognises restaurants that offer excellent value for money, regardless of their culinary style. This year, the inspectors have added six new Bib Gourmand restaurants to the list: one in Rio de Janeiro (Koral) and five in São Paulo (Jiquitaia, Manioca JK, Ping Yang Thai, Tabōa Cozinha Artesanal and Tanit). This brings the total number of Bib Gourmand restaurants in the region to 44.

Green Star

In line with our commitment to the gastronomy of the future, the Michelin Guide is retaining the three restaurants awarded the Green Star, all of which are located in São Paulo (A Casa do Porco, Corrutela and Tuju).

Recommendations

The culinary diversity of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo remains as dynamic as ever, offering a wealth of exciting new eateries. Our international tasting panel confirms that high-quality Brazilian gastronomy continues to flourish, regardless of the style of cuisine.

This year, seven new restaurants have been added to the ‘Recommended’ category: two in Rio de Janeiro (Sushi Vaz and Yayá Comidaria Pop Brasileira) and five in São Paulo (Bar da Dona Onça, Grotta Cucina, Kureiji, Makoto San and SIMONE). This brings the total number of recommended restaurants in the two cities to 81. The ‘Recommended’ designation is a significant accolade and reflects a commitment to exceptional quality and culinary excellence.

Special Mentions

Through its awards, the Michelin Guide honours not only the craftsmanship but also the distinctive character of culinary creations. In its unwavering pursuit of excellence, the Guide also shines a spotlight on gastronomic professionals whose daily dedication and passion elevate the culinary experience to an exceptional level. The Special Awards, which honour the expertise and craftsmanship that create unforgettable moments of pleasure, this year recognise several outstanding figures whose exceptional talent has left a lasting mark on the industry:

  • The MICHELIN Guide Young Chef Award: This year’s Young Chef Award goes to Pedro Coronha (29), the culinary visionary behind the restaurant Koral in Rio de Janeiro. With a modern approach grounded in solid technical foundations – he graduated from Alain Ducasse’s local culinary school and honed his skills in renowned restaurants in Lisbon and Copenhagen – Chef Pedro Coronha has emerged as one of the most promising figures in contemporary Brazilian cuisine. His mastery is particularly evident in the preparation of seafood. Techniques such as smoking and grilling result in dishes that delight guests.
  • The MICHELIN Guide Sommelier Award: This award honours Robério de Sousa Queiroz, manager and sommelier at the one-starred restaurant Maní in São Paulo, for his tireless commitment to ensuring an optimal guest experience. Robério discovered his passion for gastronomy at the age of 16 and has since dedicated himself to perfecting his craft. After completing his studies at the Brazilian Sommelier Association (ABS), he took the bold step of realising his dream: to help his guests fulfil their dreams by offering them impeccable service and creating unforgettable wine experiences.
  • The MICHELIN Guide Service Award: This award is presented to Raphael Zanon, the restaurant manager of Casa 201 in Rio de Janeiro (awarded one star). With his deep passion for hospitality, Raphael embodies the dual role of maître d’hôtel and sommelier with flying colours, skilfully employing the legendary tastevin during wine service. With elegance and professionalism, he manages the dining room and enhances the visionary culinary creations of Head Chef João Paulo Frankenfeld through well-considered wine pairings and meticulous attention to detail. In this way, he guarantees a sophisticated and unforgettable culinary experience.
  • The MICHELIN Guide Exceptional Cocktail Award: For the first time in Brazil, the Exceptional Cocktail Award recognises the country’s outstanding innovative drinks offerings. This award goes to Anderson Oliveira, the creative force behind the bar and cocktail programme at the two-Michelin-starred restaurant D.O.M. in São Paulo. Renowned for his ingenuity, Anderson presents around four original cocktails each season, alongside a selection of popular classics. These carefully crafted drinks harmonise perfectly with Head Chef Alex Atala’s acclaimed tasting menu, enhancing the culinary experience with every sip.
