The Gourmet recommends Japanese restaurants

The magazine showcases 33 selected venues between Flensburg and Chiemgau

HAMBURG. Whether in department stores, trendy neighbourhoods or the countryside, Japanese cuisine has long since made its mark in Germany – and is more diverse than ever. In its latest issue, *Der Feinschmecker* explores the fascination of Japanese culinary culture and showcases 33 selected venues from Flensburg to Chiemgau. Whether classic sushi craftsmanship, modern interpretations or regional discoveries – the editorial team has reviewed restaurants that stand for precision, product quality and a distinct culinary signature. Many of the establishments featured are shaped by trained sushi masters, whilst others combine Japanese techniques with European influences.

At the top of the selection are restaurants such as Shio in Hamburg, Toki in Cologne, Masa Japanese Cuisine in Frankfurt and Matsuhisa in Munich. These are followed by further outstanding establishments, including Matsumi and Zipang in Hamburg, Stoke in Berlin, Nashi in Erfurt, Nagare in Stuttgart and Asaka in Regensburg. Der Feinschmecker ’s selection thus highlights not only the very best in terms of quality, but also the wide geographical range of Japanese cuisine in Germany – from established cities to surprising locations. All 33 award-winning restaurants share a high standard of product quality, precision craftsmanship and a distinctive culinary signature.

“Japan is currently the big trend destination – many people are travelling there or engaging intensively with the culture. At the same time, this unique world of culinary delights can also be experienced here,” says Editor-in-Chief Gabriele Heins. “In recent years, Japanese cuisine has developed significantly in Germany. We highlight establishments that stand for authenticity, artisanal quality and an original interpretation.”

In addition to restaurant recommendations, the magazine offers further insights into the world of Japanese gastronomy: a stroll through Düsseldorf’s ‘Little Tokyo’, background on sake culture and the growing interest in Japanese whisky, as well as insights into the craftsmanship of traditional knife smiths. The issue is complemented by profiles of top chefs such as Christian Bau and Tohru Nakamura, who have shaped Japanese-inspired cuisine in Germany.

The editorial team also provides inspiration for everyday life: from design objects with a Japanese connection to online shops for authentic delicacies. With this Japan Special, Der Feinschmecker demonstrates just how diverse and accessible this cuisine is today – and invites readers to question familiar culinary traditions and discover new worlds of flavour.
