Michelin Guide rates 48 restaurants in Malta
(17 February 2025) - The Michelin Guide has published its restaurant ratings for Malta for 2026. The new edition covers 48 restaurants, including 6 new recommendations. All 7 starred restaurants in the region have been awarded again. The Bib Gourmand category has grown by one new restaurant and now includes a total of 5 restaurants across the archipelago. Three talented restaurateurs have been honoured with the "Michelin Special Award".
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide, explains: "During their visits, the inspectors note that the islands are experiencing a period of exceptional tourist dynamism and infrastructural development. As a result, a wave of high-calibre new openings is expected, which will further enhance the archipelago's gastronomic offering. As a result, all seven starred restaurants have been re-awarded, demonstrating their culinary continuity and consistently high quality."
Among the highlights, the inspectors highlight Simon Rogan's ION Harbour, which has defended its two stars with modern cuisine characterised by excellent balance, attention to detail and a consistent farm-to-table philosophy. Another highlight is Rosamì, which has retained its star under the leadership of new head chef Davide Marcon, a professional renowned for his excellence and Mediterranean cuisine.
Special awards
The Young Chef Award goes to George Attard. In 2025, at the age of 31 and after extensive international experience, he returned to his home island of Gozo. There he became involved in the Level project.
The Nine at The Grand restaurant is located on the top floor of the Grand Hotel Gozo and offers breathtaking views of the bustling harbour of Mgarr. Here, distinctly modern Mediterranean dishes with high aesthetic standards and authentic flavours are served. The cuisine combines local inspiration with modern cooking techniques and clear, authentic flavours. The testers particularly praised the preparation and presentation of the leg of lamb with anchovies, shallots and parmentière sauce.
The service award goes to the Rosamì restaurant , managed by director Charlo Cachia and his team. It offers a magnificent view of Balluta Bay and is located in a magnificent Maltese-style villa. The award recognises the exceptional atmosphere created by the experienced and passionate team throughout the meal. The staff present the menu with seriousness and professionalism, contributing to an unforgettable culinary experience from the moment guests arrive to the moment they leave.
The Sommelier Award goes to Miljan Radonjic from the renowned Michelin-starred restaurant De Mondion in Mdina. Miljan has made a name for himself with his extremely courteous manner, which naturally puts guests at ease in a relaxed atmosphere. His professionalism is combined with a profound knowledge of wine, making him a real reference point for the restaurant and guests, who always choose the most appropriate and interesting wines.
One new restaurant has been awarded a Bib Gourmand, and five restaurants have been newly added to the list of recommended addresses. Verbena in Mgarr is now also part of the Bib Gourmand selection.
