Marburg dining room to close
Hessen, Marburg
MARBURG. The Michelin-starred restaurant Marburger Esszimmer will close on 1 March, according to an announcement by the operating company. "Despite the highest culinary quality, maximum media attention and an enthusiastic clientele, the sophisticated gourmet fine dining concept of the Marburger Esszimmer was unable to establish itself in the regional market in the long term," the announcement stated.
Since its opening in 2023, Marburger Esszimmer has stood for a contemporary culinary concept of green fine dining and was awarded a Michelin star within three months of opening for its innovative cuisine and service, as well as the coveted "green" Michelin star. As a direct result, renowned gourmet guides and media outlets such as Falstaff, Gault & Millau, Rolling Pin, FAZ ("Favourite of the Year") and "Frankfurt geht aus" praised the restaurant. Kathrin Feix was named "Sommelière of the Year". "We did not take this decision lightly," explains Michael Hamann, CEO of VILA VITA Marburg SE. "The Marburger Esszimmer was an outstanding project in terms of content and cuisine. At the same time, however, we had to conclude that the necessary clientele for such a specialised fine dining concept is not permanently available in our region to a sufficient extent. In cities such as Frankfurt, Berlin, Hamburg or Munich, this gourmet concept would have been viable. In Marburg and the surrounding area, there is simply not enough clientele for this."
No separation for quality reasons
The closure is expressly not related to the performance of the restaurant team. Kathrin and Denis Feix shaped the Marburger Esszimmer over three years with great personal commitment, high creativity and a consistent focus on quality. "The Michelin star, the positive feedback from guests and the trade press, and the existing regular clientele speak for themselves. Our decision is a structural one, not a personnel one," says Hamann. VILA VITA Marburg would like to express its sincere thanks to Mr and Mrs Feix for their trusting cooperation and their significant contribution to raising the gastronomic profile of Marburg, according to the statement.
No final decision has yet been made regarding the future gastronomic use of the premises currently occupied by the Marburger Esszimmer. The company is currently reviewing new concepts. "We are deliberately taking the time to develop a sustainable gastronomic solution that is appropriate for the location," emphasises Hamann. "As soon as there are concrete plans, we will communicate them transparently." VILA VITA Marburg is looking ahead and will align its gastronomic portfolio even more closely with the needs of the region and its guests in the future, without compromising on quality, cuisine and hospitality.
