The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2024 - Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award

In the Restaurant Rankings.de world restaurant rankings for the second half of 2025, Restaurant Plénitude confirms its first place. Arnaud Donckele's Parisian restaurant took the top spot for the first time in 2023. It is one of a select group of 27 restaurants that are rated so highly by professional restaurant guides that they receive the maximum possible score of 20 points in the world rankings. The average score on review portals then determines the final ranking within this select group.

Two restaurants follow in second place: Schauenstein in Fürstenau, Switzerland, and Assiette Champenoise in Tinqueux, France, both of which were in fifth place in the spring. Fourth place is shared by two Danish restaurants: Geranium (Copenhagen, 13th place in the spring) and Jordnaer (Copenhagen), which is among the top group for the first time.

In sixth place is Aqua (Wolfsburg, spring: 10th place), the first German restaurant. In the German rankings, it is behind JAN in Munich, which is in seventh place in this year's world rankings (spring: 4th place). This is because the calculation methods differ. The world rankings are based on an evaluation of the current editions of professional restaurant guides and the results of well-known voting rankings, such as The World's 50 Best and Le Chef magazine. The four best scores are taken into account for the world rankings. If several restaurants achieve the same number of points, the ratings from popular voting portals, Tripadvisor and Google are used to determine the ranking. This means that missing top ratings in the professional guides cannot compensate for top ratings on user portals, but merely lead to differentiation between restaurants that receive the same ratings in the classic guides. For the country rankings – such as the Germany ranking – more than two guides are evaluated in some cases. However, to ensure that countries with fewer guides are not overly disadvantaged, only two scores are counted for the world ranking. As a result, two restaurants may not be placed in the same order in the world ranking as in their country ranking.

Seventh place goes to Alchemist (Denmark, Copenhagen), which is among the top restaurants in the world rankings for the first time. In ninth place is Sonnora in Dreis, another German restaurant, which was still in third place in the spring. Another newcomer to the top group of the world rankings occupies tenth place: Noma in Copenhagen. Frantzén (Stockholm, Sweden, spring 10th place) is in eleventh place. Schwarzwaldstube in Baiersbronn takes twelfth place at the end of the year, having been in second place in the spring. The restaurant shares twelfth place with L'Enclume (Cartmel, Great Britain, spring 5th place) and Boury in Roeselre, Belgium, which is in the top group for the first time. Victor's Fine Dining by Christian Bau in Perl-Nennig (9th place in spring) takes 15th place, while Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl (Basel, Switzerland) confirms its 16th place. Next up is the best Spanish restaurant, Disfrutar (Barcelona, Spain, 13th place in spring), in 17th place. In 18th place is a trio consisting of Marcon (St. Bonnet-le-Froid, France, unchanged), Benu (San Francisco, USA, 16th place in spring) and Single Thread (Healdsburg, USA, 16th place in spring). 21st place goes to Rutz (Berlin, 10th place in spring). In 22nd place are L'Ambroisie (Paris, France, spring ranking 24), Le Bernardin (New York, USA, spring ranking 21) and Robuchon au Dome (Macau, China, spring ranking 21). DiverXo (Madrid, Spain, 23rd place in spring) secures 25th place ahead of Smyth (Chicago, USA, 24th place in spring) in 26th place. Odette in Singapore completes the top group in 27th place.

This means that the following restaurants are no longer represented in the top group: Restaurant de l'Hôtel de Ville (Crissier, Switzerland, now 28th place), De Librije (Zwolle, Netherlands, now 33rd place) and Maaemo (Oslo, Norway, now 62nd place).

In addition to the restaurants in the top group, other German establishments are represented in the top 100: Schanz (Piesport, 31st place, Frühkajr 28th place), The Table (Hamburg, 32nd place, spring 29th place), Bareiss (Baiersbronn, 37th place, spring 34th place), Tohru in der Schreiberei (Munich, 49th place, 94th place in spring), Es:senz (Grassau, 50th place, 47th place in spring), Vendôme (Bergisch Gladbach, 58th place, 56th place in spring), Haerlin (Hamburg, 60th place, 80th place in spring, previous year).

Germany is represented by a total of 13 restaurants (-1 compared to spring). Only France is more successful with 22 restaurants. That is three fewer than in spring. Spain follows with ten restaurants (unchanged), the USA (-1) with nine and Japan (unchanged) with six, Italy (-1), China (unchanged), four in Switzerland (-1) and Denmark (+1). Great Britain and Singapore are represented with three restaurants (+1). Austria, Belgium and Norway (all unchanged) are represented with two restaurants each. One restaurant in the top 100 is located in Slovenia (+1), as well as Thailand (-1), Sweden and the Netherlands (unchanged).

The methodology used in the world ranking by Restaurant-Ranglisten.de differs in one respect from the LaListe ranking, which was published a few weeks ago. Our ranking is updated several times a year. It also gives greater weight to the classic guides (Guide Michelin, Gault&Millau, etc.), as these are initially used alone for the so-called PRO rating. Only in the event of a tie are the ratings on review portals (USER rating) included in the ranking, which then determine the specific placement.
