Pleasure summit on Sylt
Schleswig-Holstein
Six Sylt hosts, six guest chefs, six guest winemakers, extraordinary events and excellent hospitality - these are the basic ingredients of the Island Food Festival, which will provide sensual delights in a class of their own in the middle of November. From 12 to 16 November, star chef Holger Bodendorf ("Landhaus Stricker") and five other Sylt hosts are inviting chefs and winemakers from all over the world to "celebrate the island's culinary diversity in a glamorous and relaxed way".
Together with Max Westphal ("Severin's Resort & Spa"), Jan Nissen-Hünding ("Samoa Seepferdchen"), Jörg Müller ("Hotel & Restaurant Jörg Müller"), Jan-Philipp Berner ("Söl'ring Hof") and Thomas Samson ("Dorfkrug Bar & Grill"), the festival initiator has put together a five-day programme of events for literally every taste. "We are celebrating five days of relaxed enjoyment, encounters and friendship with our guests. I'm looking forward to the event like crazy," says Bodendorf.
Stylish dinners, informal lunches and culinary excursions
This year's Island Food Festival kicks off on 12 November with a casual get-together at Severin's Resort & Spa. Under the motto "Taste the Island", the kitchen teams from all the host establishments, together with their guest chefs and winemakers and partner businesses from the island, will ensure a customised kick-off. The flying buffet provides a foretaste of the events of the following days, as do the gourmet stations of Sylt's partner businesses and their regional products.
The selection ranges from exclusive gourmet experiences such as the "Perrier-Jouët - Nuit de Champagne" (Landhaus Stricker) to excellent teamwork in the form of a "Four Hands Lunch" (Wohnzimmer Söl'ring Hof) or a "Six Hands Dinner" (Severin's Resort and Spa) to an oyster excursion ("Pearls from the mudflats" with Jan-Philipp Berner), an exclusive masterclass ("Pinot Noir and Chardonnay" at Hotel & Restaurant Jörg Müller) and imaginative evenings under the motto "Ebbe und Flut - mit allen Wassern gewaschen" at the "Samoa Seepferdchen".
Five days full of enjoyment, encounters and friendship
In addition to the culinary experiences, the festival is all about encounters. "The festival is the result of close friendships and a passion for experiencing pleasure together. And that's exactly what we want to celebrate together with our guests," says Holger Bodendorf, who first organised the festival on a small scale in 2019.
The island reunion has since become a festival with international appeal, attracting guests from all over the world to the North Sea island. For example, Roland Huber conjures up an "Austrian Crossover" in the "Dorfkrug" in Kampen and Nikos Billis provides Greek specialities at the "Greek Gourmet Menu" in the "Hotel and Restaurant Jörg Müller". Top Swiss chef André Jaeger, a pioneer of fusion cuisine, will also be making a guest appearance on the island. The Austrian-North German evening "Alpenglühen & Meeresrauschen", where the best of Alpine cuisine meets North German classics, ensures an enjoyable liaison.
Grand finale with a legendary kitchen party
And these are by no means all the highlights of this extraordinary food festival. "Every evening, every festival event is unique," promises Holger Bodendorf. At the grand finale on Saturday 15 November, all the protagonists and facets of the festival will come together once again. At the legendary kitchen party in the "Landhaus Stricker", guests will not only be there, but right in the middle of the action. The six guest chefs each serve two dishes at the live cooking stations distributed throughout the house. The most communicative twelve-course menu of the year will be crowned by a party with DJ legend Peter Kliem.
