Three new two-star hotels in Switzerland

145 Michelin-starred restaurants in Switzerland
(20 October 2025) - Michelin today published the restaurant selection for the Guide MICHELIN Switzerland 2025. The ceremony took place at the EHL Hospitality Business School in Lausanne. "Out of a total of 145 Michelin-starred restaurants in this selection, 114 have been awarded one star, 27 two stars and four three stars. Restaurants run individually by chefs and owners alike present exciting concepts that focus on respectful use of products and resources as well as select quality," says Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, praising the remarkable standard of Swiss gastronomy, which is characterised by an increase in the number of stars this year.
Sturgeon from Frutigen, salmon from Lostallo, shrimps from local saltwater pools, small trout and char breeders, organic lamb from the Engadin, free-range poultry and responsibly produced rapeseed oil: with an increasing focus on regionality and seasonality, chefs and restaurant operators are promoting environmentally conscious gastronomy in the country. The many restaurants with lunch specials, which are very popular, are also striking. Traditional addresses such as Le Pont de Brent (Brent) and Talvo (St. Moritz) are also being successfully continued under new management and in new splendour. In addition, the trend towards sophisticated, modern counter restaurants continues. For example, the already recommended starred restaurants The Counter (Zurich) and Birdy's by Achtien - The Nest (Brunnen) are joined in this year's selection by new stars such as Minamo (Lucerne) and Rosmarin (Lenzburg). "Swiss gastronomy is also moving with the times when it comes to digitalisation: online reservations and optimised processes benefit guests. Discover great restaurants and inns, bistros and brasseries that impress with their hospitality in the cities and in the countryside," says Poullennec.
Top gastronomy confirmed: four restaurants with three MICHELIN stars
The new Swiss selection continues to boast a fantastic gastronomic top. All four 3-star restaurants have confirmed their awards from the previous year. The absolute top addresses in the country include Memories in the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz (SG) with the team led by Sven Wassmer, Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl in Basel (BS) with Peter Knogl as head chef, the Restaurant de l'Hôtel de Ville in Crissier (VD), where Franck Giovannini is at the helm, and Schloss Schauenstein in Fürstenau (GR) with Andreas Caminada and Marcel Skibba as head chefs.
Three new 2-star restaurants
There are three new restaurants among the 27 with two MICHELIN stars. At the IGNIV by Andreas Caminada restaurant in Andermatt (UR), young chef Valentin Sträuli - a student of Caminada and most recently at Schloss Schauenstein - has produced an outstanding performance. His "Sharing Experience" by Caminada, peppered with his own ideas, immediately earned the restaurant, which was newly included in the selection, two stars. The Ecco in the Hotel Giardino in Ascona (TI) has also made the leap from zero to two stars. Reto Brändli, who already made a name for himself in the Lorenz Adlon dining room in Berlin, is responsible for this and has now created a magnificent and harmonious combination of classicism and modernity based on first-class ingredients. In Savièse (TI), the Gilles Varone restaurant has gone from one to two stars. The eponymous patron and chef shines with a precise and pleasantly straightforward cuisine that emphasises seasonal Swiss produce.
18 new restaurants with one star
The Swiss MICHELIN Guide 2025 honours 18 new restaurants with one star. In total, the selection includes 114 1-star restaurants. Among the new additions is the LA restaurant in Basel (BS), where patron Matthieu Judenne impresses with his modern, seasonal cuisine that is reduced to the essentials in the form of a surprise menu. Equally interesting is Le Pont de Brent in Brent (VD) with Joeffry Fraiche as the new operator and chef at the cooker. Shortly after taking over the traditional restaurant, the regional and seasonal cuisine was recognised with a star for its skilful combination of classic craftsmanship and modern ideas. At the Fiescherblick restaurant in Grindelwald (BE), head chef Aurélien Mettler and his team offer a modern, seasonal "Chef's Choice" that emphasises regional products. In Lugano (TI), the Felix Lo Basso Restaurant is well worth a visit: Felice Lo Basso is responsible for the Mediterranean-influenced, creative cuisine at star level, which focuses on great products without show effects. At Corso in St. Gallen (SG), owner and head chef Markus Schenk uses seasonal ingredients to bring the Alpine region to the plate in an expressive and uncomplicated way and has thus cooked his way into the league of 1-star restaurants. Talvo St. Moritz (GR) also deserves attention. Here, Kevin Fernandez succeeded Martin Dalsass and built on his many years of success. His Mediterranean cuisine, based on selected products, combines classic style with his own ideas and immediately earned the traditional restaurant a star.
Three winners at the MICHELIN Special Awards
This year, the MICHELIN Guide Switzerland presented three awards for special achievements in service, as a Young Chef and as a sommelier. The MICHELIN Service Award, presented by Pernod Ricard, went to Nadine Baumgartner from the de MATOS restaurant in Lucerne, which was awarded a MICHELIN star this year for its creative cuisine by Oscar de Matos. She is being honoured for her friendly, charming and professional service to guests. The MICHELIN Young Chef Award, presented by Blancpain, honours Benjamin Geisser , who at the Soleil d'Or by David Geisser restaurant in St. Gallen is still in his early years and impresses with elaborate and sophisticated cuisine at star level. Charline Pichon is the winner of this year's MICHELIN Sommelier Award, which was presented by Swiss Wine. The head sommelier of the famous Restaurant de l'Hôtel de Ville in Crissier shines with her in-depth knowledge of wine and warmth and provides the ideal accompaniment to Franck Giovannini's 3-star cuisine.
Five restaurants newly honoured with Bib Gourmand
In this year's selection, the MICHELIN Guide honours five new restaurants with the Bib Gourmand. The selection includes a total of 104 addresses with the popular award. The Bib Gourmand is awarded to restaurants that offer particularly good value for money and delight their guests with tasty, budget-friendly yet sophisticated cuisine that is often regionally influenced. The newcomers are Le Dorian in Geneva (GE), Au Vieux Nendaz in Haute-Nendaz (VS), Château Attisholz - Brasserie la Source in Riedholz (SO), La Scarpetta in St. Moritz (GR) and Freilager La Trattoria in Zurich (ZH).
