Restaurant review
Studio, Gulpen-Wittem
"Hans Kinkartz and his young crew delivered a very convincing menu here: creative, surprising, with the courage to use strong flavours and a high level of craftsmanship. It may have been our first time here, but it's hard to imagine that the cooking here has been any less good before. So it's not really clear why the star came so late. But the fact that we felt extremely comfortable was not only due to the excellent food, but also to the fabulous service, which Ellen Kinkartz and two young ladies manage charmingly and with a very personal touch. The drinks service was also very impressive. Ellen Kinkartz serves a very accurate selection of wines from Canada, South Tyrol, Alsace, the South of France and Germany, some classic and some unconventional bottles. The non-alcoholic accompaniments I choose, with juice extracts from vegetables and herbs, are also convincing across the board and are perfectly matched to the dishes. Once again, we have found a restaurant that was fun in every respect and definitely deserves another visit. In the meantime, the list on the other side of the border is getting longer and longer. A nice luxury problem ..." (Published in May 2025)
