Barbara Merll leaves Skykitchen
Berlin
BERLIN: The previous restaurant manager of Skykitchen, Barbara Merll, is leaving the Michelin-starred restaurant on 1 September. As Skykitchen announced in a social media post, Matthias Lofent will be taking over her duties.
Barbara Merll, who was recently a guest on our podcast, worked as a hostess at the restaurant for more than ten years. "I've worked with great people for ten years, welcomed countless guests and probably folded more napkins than I can count. Now it's time for something new - and I'm delighted that Matthias is taking over," Barbara Merll is quoted as saying in the post.
Matthias Lofent previously worked at Fischers Fritz and the two-star restaurant Horvath. He also knows some of his colleagues at Skykitchen from that time, including sommelier Sharin Polte. "It's great to be working with "old" and, above all, valued colleagues again. Here's to a great revival! I am delighted to be part of this great restaurant with the best view over Berlin. Skykitchen has a reputation that obliges - but also makes you want more. Together with Sascha and the team, we want to show that fine dining doesn't have to be stiff and dusty, on the contrary, that it can simply be fun," says Lofent in the post.

"The blend of local produce and cosmopolitan flavours is spot on. The dishes are very well-defined."
