Restaurant review

Caruso Pastabar, Cologne

Köln, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Forum

"'Mum's kitchen' par excellence"

"Respectfully, this was 'mum's cooking' par excellence, which was served to us here within two hours. We had entered the pasta bar with high expectations, but these were exceeded by far, as the flavoursome and tasty creations, which represented the best of Mediterranean comfort food, were truly an invitation to feast! If there was one course that didn't quite live up to the standard, it was the dessert, because the French perhaps get a babá au rhum a little more expressive and indulgent on their plates, but who goes to an Italian restaurant just for a dessert? However, the rest of the dishes (including those of my colleague, who was also delighted) were totally convincing: a harmonious combination of individual components, expressive sauces to lick your plate clean and the home-made pasta cooked al dente to perfection, as you would expect in Italy. The seasoning and umami notes were sometimes on the edge, which of course you have to like, but we both liked it, and we really liked it!" (Published in May 2025)
