Three restaurants share second place: Kanda, L'Osier and Sazenka

Restaurant Ryugin in Tokyo is the best restaurant in Japan in 2025, according to an analysis of the scores of the country's most important restaurant guides by Restaurant-Ranglisten.de. It was already at the top of the rankings from 2015 to 2020. Ryugin overtakes the previous year's leader, the Sazenka restaurant in Tokyo, which is now in second place. It shares this position with the restaurants L'Osier and Kanda in Tokyo.

With one exception, there are only minor shifts in the top 10. Only the restaurant Joel Robuchon in Tokyo was able to improve from 124th to eighth place and enter the top group for the first time. The best newcomer to the ranking is Ichirin in Tokyo, which immediately reaches 93rd place in the ranking. The newcomer of the year is Torishige in Tokyo Shibuya, which improved from 522nd to 375th place and gained 33 ranking points. The best newcomers to the ranking are the restaurants Cycle by Mauro Colagreco and apothéose in Tokyo, which both achieved 94th place and collected 52.2 ranking points within a year.

The ranking takes into account 596 restaurants that have achieved ratings in the Michelin Guide, Gault&Millau, Tabolog Guide, EliteTraveller, Asia's 50 Best, La Liste, Opinonated about Dining (OAD) and the Best Chef Awards.
