KARLSRUHE. The Michelin-starred restaurant TAWA YAMA in Karlsruhe has had to cease operations, at least for the time being. "An examination of the economic situation has shown that it is currently not possible to continue the business to cover costs," says insolvency administrator Holger Blümle from the law firm Schultze & Braun.

Restaurant operations have therefore been discontinued as of 1 July 2025. "It is also the task of the insolvency administrator to protect the rights of creditors, secure the insolvency estate and minimise losses as far as possible," says Blümle. In principle, however, it is still possible for an investor to step in and take over TAWA YAMA.

During the search for investors, it became apparent that no potential interested party was willing or able to take over and continue the restaurant operations in the short time available. It was no longer possible for TAWA YAMA itself to finance ongoing operations independently, as the insolvency benefits for the two trainees, ten full-time and 33 part-time employees expired at the end of June and TAWA YAMA would no longer have been able to cover the wages and salaries of its employees. "Due to the huge shortage of skilled labour in the catering industry, employees looking for new jobs are likely to find them quickly. The insolvency administration will do everything in its power to support the employees," says Blümle.
