Farewell

[KOOK 36] closes after star loss

Bayern

Deggendorf restaurant justifies the decision with the overall economic situation

DEGGENDORF: The former Michelin-starred restaurant KOOK 36 is closing. The move was announced after the restaurant lost its star on Tuesday. "When you let go, you have two hands free," the announcement reads. The reason for this is the "overall economic conditions", which are anything but favourable.

"We had seven wonderful years, whether in Moos or in Deggendorf, nobody would have expected us to get a Michelin star with our restaurant in 2021 and keep it until yesterday. We are very proud of that. We have kept our "baby" KOOK 36 alive with heart and soul, passion and commitment. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough, and I would like to emphasise that this closure is a very difficult one for me, for us and for the whole team. The necessary steps have already been taken in the last few days. The lost star is not the reason for the closure," explains Daniel Klein. He is also responsible for Edl.eins, which continues to hold one star.

Daniel Klein added to the information at the end of June. As a result, KOOK 36 has now filed for insolvency, which has since been confirmed. "The decision came faster than we could realise - we had to act within a few days. The situation had come to such a head that it is now out of our hands and no longer our own decision. Even though this phase is coming to an end, giving up is not an option for me. I very much hope to be able to look positively to the future again soon. At the moment, I am pursuing my current projects and appointments at a somewhat slower pace in order to sort out this phase carefully and clarify it for myself. When the time is right, I will certainly talk about it again - openly, honestly and with renewed clarity. But one thing remains: My passion for gastronomy, the kitchen and my experience, which I want to carry on and develop. I can't and won't stop developing myself, spinning new ideas and making a difference together with people. I'm full of hope and excited to see where the journey takes me - because even when doors close, new ones often open when you least expect it," reads a post shared on social media.

This is not a farewell forever - but a turning point. And also the beginning of something new.

With sincere gratitude and looking ahead.

KOOK 36 first opened in Moos in 2018 and then moved to Deggendorf. It was awarded one star in the Michelin Guide from 2021 to 2025.
