IGNIV Bad Ragaz has to close
BAD RAGAZ. The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz has surprisingly announced the end of its collaboration with renowned Swiss celebrity chef Andreas Caminada. Despite a contract running until 2027, the two Michelin-starred Igniv restaurant will close for good on 31 January 2026, reports the Swiss Gault&Millau.
The building in which the restaurant is located is to be extensively renovated from February 2027. It was already known that IGNIV would close during this period. It has now been announced that it will not reopen. According to Gault&Millau, Simon Spiller, the new General Manager of the resort, wants to focus on his own restaurant concepts in future and avoid "cannibalising" the existing offerings. Two new restaurants are to be created in place of the Igniv: one with Thai cuisine and one with Italian cuisine. The aim is to appeal to a younger clientele and diversify the culinary offering. The new concepts are being developed by Robbie Bargh, who has already worked for renowned hotels such as the Baur au Lac in Zurich, according to the report.
According to Gault&Millau, Caminada accepts the decision and emphasises that his team led by head chef Joël Ellenberger will take on new projects within the Caminada Group. The top chef is also withdrawing from the catering company Acasa, which he ran together with the Grand Resort.
The IGNIV in Bad Ragaz was the first of the restaurant family. Other restaurants with the sharing concept are currently located in Andermatt, Zurich and Bangkok.
