Florian Vogel becomes Executive Chef at Staderer

Bayern

New culinary hotspot at DAS ALTMÜHLTAL hotel opens in July 2025

EICHSTÄTT. Michelin-starred chef Florian Vogel is taking over the culinary management of the new fine dining restaurant "Staderer" at DAS ALTMÜHLTAL hotel in Eichstätt. The restaurant will open in July 2025 and is set to develop into a new top address for gourmet cuisine in Bavaria under Florian Vogel's leadership. Together with Christiaan van Berkel as Maître, the hotel is launching a strong team - with high standards, experience and hospitality at the highest level.

Florian Vogel has been one of the top German chefs for years. Born in Wilhelmshaven, he was most recently head chef at the "Camers" restaurant at Schloss Hohenkammer for over nine years. He was awarded a Michelin star there for the first time in 2017 and played a key role in shaping the culinary direction of the establishment. He has also been one of Rolling Pin magazine's "TOP Chefs Germany" since 2023. For several years, the Schlemmer Atlas recognised him as one of the "Top 50 Chefs" in Germany.

Florian Vogel's career has taken him through a large number of renowned professional kitchens in Germany. He gained his first management experience at the "Garden Restaurant" in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof and at Feinkost Käfer in Munich. In 2005, he moved to the two-star restaurant "Kastell" at Wernberg Castle in the Upper Palatinate and then to the gourmet restaurant at the Hotel Königshof in Munich. From 2009, he was at the cooker in the three-star restaurant "Victor's Fine Dining by Christian Bau" in Perl-Nenning on the Moselle. Further positions followed at the fine dining restaurant "Atelier" at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof and the two-star restaurant "Dallmayr" in Munich.

Florian Vogel's cuisine is known for its brilliant craftsmanship, classic orientation and harmonious interplay of flavours and textures - with a clear focus on sustainability and high-quality ingredients. In future, this philosophy will not only characterise the gourmet restaurant "Staderer", but also the new bar "Der Dicke Franz". It will offer hotel guests and external connoisseurs unusual bar food at a high level and modern classics. The culinary concept also includes a spacious terrace with a panoramic view of the Altmühl and historic old town as well as banqueting options for parties and private celebrations. In both restaurants, the wine affinity of the hosts will contribute to special moments of enjoyment in a broad and high-quality curated list of German and European wines.

In the "Staderer", the experienced restaurateur and host Christiaan van Berkel takes on the role of maître d'. The Dutchman has many years of experience in top German and international gastronomy. His professional career has included stints at the "Petit Tirolia" restaurant in Kitzbühel, the "Fährhaus" on Sylt, the Michelin-starred "OLIVO" restaurant in Stuttgart and as gastronomic director for Engelhorn Gastro GmbH in Mannheim, including the two-star "Opus V" restaurant. Most recently, he was responsible for the "Maierl Alm" in the Kitzbühel Alps. He has been listed among the "Top 50 Sommeliers" in the Schlemmer Atlas for several years in a row.

Andreas Martin Meier, representative of the owner family of the hotel "DAS ALTMÜHLTAL", is delighted about the high-calibre new additions to the team: "Florian Vogel and Christiaan van Berkel will develop our hotel 'DAS ALTMÜHLTAL' and the gourmet restaurant 'Staderer' into an authentic and warm centre of attraction for gourmets from all over Bavaria. I am also looking forward to being able to offer uncomplicated access to enjoyment for every day with the concept of our bar 'Der Dicke Franz'. When it comes to wines, there is a particular focus on young winemakers and lesser-known names."

The new culinary offering is aimed equally at local guests and visitors from the region between Ingolstadt, Nuremberg, Augsburg, Regensburg and Munich, as well as discerning short-break holidaymakers, event guests and business travellers.

"The appointment of Florian Vogel and Christiaan van Berkel marks an important milestone in the further development of our hotel," Vladimir Saal, Managing Partner of the hotel, is convinced. "Until the opening, we and the team are focussing intensively on the quality of our services. Applicants work with us in an inspiring environment with the best in their field. We also offer staff accommodation for new arrivals, which makes it easier for them to join our team," continues Vladimir Saal.
