25 restaurants form the absolute top group - Schwarzwaldstube in second place

The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2024 - Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award

Restaurant Plénitude confirms first place in the Restaurant-Ranglisten.de 2025 world restaurant rankings. Arnaud Donckele's Parisian restaurant first took the top spot in 2023. The first German restaurant follows in second place. This year, it is the Schwarzwaldstube in Baiersbronn, which was still in fourth place in the last update in August 2024. Third place goes to Sonnora in Dreis, which moved up one place.

In the Germany rankings, the two restaurants are behind JAN in Munich, which is in fourth place in the world rankings this year after coming second last year. The reason for this is that the calculation methods differ: the world ranking is based on the evaluation of the current editions of professional restaurant guides, as well as the results of well-known voting rankings such as The World's 50 Best and Le Chef magazine. The best two scores are taken into account for the world ranking. If several restaurants then achieve the same score, the scores from popular voting portals, Tripadvisor and Google are used to determine the ranking. This means that a lack of top marks in the professional guides cannot compensate for top ratings on the user portals; instead, they only lead to differentiation for restaurants that achieve the same marks in the classic guides. For the country rankings - such as the Germany ranking - more than two guides are sometimes analysed. However, to ensure that countries with fewer guides are not at too great a disadvantage, only two scores are counted for the world rankings. As a result, two restaurants are not placed in the same order in the world ranking list as in their country ranking list.

The three best-placed restaurants lead a group of 25 restaurants in total, which can contribute the highest scores from two professional restaurant guides to the calculation of the ranking. Last year, the number was 22.

Four restaurants share fifth place: Assiette Champenoise in Tinqueux, France, and De Librije (Zwolle, Netherlands), which have risen to the absolute top group for the first time, as well as L'Enclume (Cartmel, UK, 18th place last year) and Schauenstein in Fürstenau, Switzerland, which was in third place last year. Victor's Fine Dining by Christian Bau in Perl-Nennig follows in ninth place (11th place last year). Tenth place is shared by three restaurants: Aqua (Wolfsburg) and Rutz (Berlin, in 12th place last year), as well as Frantzén (Stockholm, Sweden, 8th place last year). This is followed by the next group of three in 13th place: Disfrutar (Barcelona, Spain), which is new to the top group, Geranium (Copenhagen, Denmark, 6th place last year) and Restaurant de l'Hôtel de Ville (Crissier, Switzerland, 14th place last year). Five restaurants achieved the joint 16th place. These are: Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl (Basel, Switzerland, 7th place last year), Maaemo (Oslo, Norway), Single Thread (Healdsburg, USA, both 16th place last year), Benu (San Francisco, USA, 18th place last year) and Marcon (St. Bonnet-le-Froid, France), which is in the top group for the first time. 21st place is shared by the restaurants Robuchon au Dome (Macau, China), which is new to the top group, and Le Bernardin (New York, USA, previously 22nd place). New to the top group is DiverXo (Madrid, Spain) in 23rd place. Sharing 24th place are the restaurants L'Ambroisie (Paris, France, previously 22nd place) and Smyth (Chicago, USA, previously 19th place), while the Auberge du Vieux Puits (Fontjoncouse, France), Régis et Jaques Marcon (St. Bonnet le Froid, France) and Flocons de Sel (Megève, France) are no longer in the top group

In addition to the restaurants in the top 100, other German establishments are also represented: Schanz (Piesport, 28th place, previous year 24th), The Table (Hamburg, 29th place, previous year 36th), Bareiss (Baiersbronn, 34th place, previous year 40th) and, for the first time, Es:senz (Grassau, 47th place), Vendôme (Bergisch Gladbach, 56th place, previous year 39th place), Haerlin (Hamburg, 80th place, previous year 87th place), and for the first time Tohru in der Schreiberei (Munich, 94th place) and Tim Raue (Berlin, 96th place).

Germany is represented by a total of 14 restaurants, two more than last year. Only France is more successful with 25 restaurants. That is two more than last year. Spain (-1) and the USA (-2) follow with ten restaurants each, Japan with nine (+6), Italy with seven (-1), six restaurants are located in China (unchanged), five in Switzerland (-1) and three in Denmark (unchanged). Singapore (-1) and Austria (-4) each have two restaurants. One restaurant each from Belgium (-1), Thailand (+1), Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands (all unchanged) are among the 100 best restaurants in the world.
