Seven restaurants receive stars

Le GV receives first star

The Michelin Guide has published its new restaurant ratings for Malta. The edition includes a total of 43 restaurants. One of them receives a star for the first time.

Year after year, the Maltese culinary scene reinvents itself and flourishes, combining bold fusion cuisines with restaurants dedicated to the treasures of the sea.
Between exuberant creativity and mastery of classic expertise, each restaurant is asserting its identity. Driven by a continuous pursuit of excellence and a meticulous attention to the quality of ingredients, whether from the Mediterranean or the rich local terrain, this effervescence demonstrates the increasing maturity of Maltese gastronomy.

"With a strong, ever-growing culinary identity, Malta is asserting its place on the global gastronomic map. The diversity of its offering, blending international influences and highlights of its local terroir, shows a dynamism that continues to captivate the inspection teams. This new Michelin selection underlines the commitment of Maltese chefs who, more than ever, offer outstanding cuisine that is both rooted in the region and open to the world," enthuses Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide.

Le GV - GV stands for Grand Voyage - is located on the 11th floor of the Le Soleil Hotel, which dates back to 1926, and invites you to escape from the everyday. Its refined décor, inspired by the luxurious train carriages of the Orient Express, combines elegance with nostalgia, while the panoramic terrace offers a breathtaking view of the city.
From the open kitchen, chefs Andrew Borg and David Tanti propose a creative, international menu. They put their talents at the service of a refined, deliberately understated menu. One of the inspectors' favourites is the matured amberjack, spiced up with a hint of sea urchin, pickled fennel and a creamy pink grapefruit sabayon.

Two restaurants retain their star after being taken over by new chefs:

Rosamì, which welcomes the talented Eoin Smith, whose tasting menus are a great opportunity to discover the excellence of Maltese produce; and Fernando Gastrotheque restaurant, where chef Hiram Cassar develops creative recipes with carefully selected ingredients for subtle, elegant results.

Three newly selected restaurants are recommended in the new edition:

La Pira - Located in the heart of historic Valletta, one of the most visited places on the island, this eatery offers authentic, flavoursome traditional Maltese cuisine in a simple setting with a convivial atmosphere. Popular dishes include plucked rabbit rigatoni, Maltese-style stuffed pumpkins, grilled octopus and aljotta, the traditional fish soup typical of the island.

Risette - Opposite the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, this elegant, modern restaurant offers cuisine that remains true to its image: refined, contemporary and emphasising the quality of the ingredients. The dishes represent the emblematic foods of Malta while reflecting the savoir-faire that the chef has acquired through his experience abroad.

The Seafood Grill Market - Away from the tourist hustle and bustle, this restaurant celebrates seafood in its purest form. A fish stall at the entrance showcases the catch of the day and promises impeccable freshness. The menu features raw seafood, vibrant ceviches, delicate oysters, exceptional caviar, crustaceans and shellfish. The chef is committed to Mediterranean authenticity and refines the local fish with classic techniques, making this place a real catch for seafood lovers.
