MENA's 50 Best Restaurants - American Express One To Watch Award

'One to wach' award goes to Morocco

The Table 3 restaurant in Casablanca, Morocco, is the winner of the 'One To Watch' award as part of the list of the 50 best restaurants in the Middle East and North Africa 2025. This award recognises visionary restaurants that are rapidly gaining recognition. Table 3 has also been identified by the 50 Best team as a restaurant with potential for a future edition of the Middle East and North Africa's 50 Best Restaurants list.

Opened in June 2024, Table 3 is a deeply personal project for Chef Fayçal Bettioui, who returned to his hometown to bring a fresh perspective to Morocco's fine dining landscape. Inspired by his classical French training and his appreciation for Japanese simplicity, his approach focuses on natural integration rather than forced fusion. The result is a menu that pays tribute to Morocco's rich terroir while embracing the precision of global gastronomy with finesse.

The restaurant's location in the neighbourhood where Bettiouis grew up adds another layer of meaning. Just minutes from his childhood home, school and the beach where he spent his summers, Table 3 reflects both nostalgia and evolution. This connection drives a creative process that continues to shape the restaurant's identity, while the enthusiastic support of the local community, which welcomes the restaurant's commitment to showcasing Moroccan produce and innovative cookery, underlines its impact. As a destination for locals and travellers from around the world, Table 3 represents the rise of Casablanca as a dynamic player on the international gastronomic map.

Table 3 stands out within Casablanca's restaurant scene for its focus on detail and discipline. The restaurant's tasting menu highlights the finest Moroccan ingredients presented with contemporary flair, offering an experience that is both rooted in tradition and forward-thinking in execution. Among the restaurant's specialities is the crudo of sea bream with tomato dashi, which embodies this philosophy: locally sourced, carefully prepared and elegantly simple. The sea bream, delivered daily from the coast, is served sashimi-style, complemented by a delicate dashi of local tomatoes and herbs.

William Drew, Director of Content for the 50 Best Restaurants in the Middle East and North Africa, says: "The American Express One To Watch Award recognises the vision, creativity and execution of restaurants that will make a significant impact on the culinary world. Table 3, under the strong leadership of Chef Fayçal Bettioui, is a great example of how regional flavours can be elevated to a new level with global techniques. We are delighted to recognise Table 3's exceptional potential."

Bettioui's illustrious career spans over a decade of excellence in the culinary world. Chef Bettioui is known for his Mediterranean style, infused with Asian influences, and has built a reputation for exceptional artistry and innovation. Under his leadership, the Zur Krone restaurant in Neupotz, Germany, was awarded a Michelin star, demonstrating his culinary prowess and dedication to fine dining. After honing his craft during stints in the US and Europe, the chef returned to his native Morocco to create a lasting culinary legacy.

Chef Fayçal Bettioui says: "This recognition for Table 3 means a lot to me. After more than two decades abroad and countless restaurant openings, Table 3 has a special place in my heart. It's not just a restaurant - it's a dream that I have cherished for years and brought to life in the neighbourhood where my journey began. This award not only celebrates my passion, but also the community and memories that have inspired me every step of the way."

The 50 Best Restaurants of the Middle East and North Africa was launched in 2022 and recognises the culinary excellence, diversity and creativity of the region. The awards bring together leading chefs, industry leaders and global media to highlight the transformative power of gastronomy. Each year, the list is compiled by the Voting Academy, an expert panel of food critics, chefs, restaurant owners and foodies, to ensure its credibility and prestige.
The awards ceremony, which will take place on 28 January 2025 in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT), will not only announce the prestigious rankings, but also provide a platform for chefs and foodies to promote the MENA region's vibrant culinary scene.
