South Korea, The World's 50 Best Restaurants

New ranking list will be published in March 2025

50 Best announces that the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2025 awards ceremony will take place in Seoul on 25 March 2025.

Following a successful 2024 edition, Asia's 50 Best Restaurants will once again return to the South Korean capital, a city that is rapidly gaining prominence as a global culinary destination. Several Korean restaurants already occupy top spots in various 50 Best rankings, reflecting the country's growing influence on the global gastronomic landscape. Visitors to Seoul will enjoy the vibrant charm and sophisticated culture the city has to offer, with everything from ancient palaces and tranquil temples to bustling markets and the picturesque Han River - all set against the backdrop of a deep-rooted and evolving culinary heritage.

"Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2025" will include an extensive programme of events developed in collaboration with the host destination's official partners, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) and the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The highlight will be the much-anticipated awards ceremony on 25 March, where the ranking of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants for 2025 will be announced, including the coveted title of 'Best Restaurant in Asia'.

William Drew, Director of Content for Asia's 50 Best Restaurants, says: "We are delighted to deepen our connection with South Korea by bringing the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2025 awards back to Seoul in March after a captivating programme of events last year. The city's culinary scene is nothing short of electrifying, with outstanding talent including visionary chefs, innovative restaurateurs and boundary-pushing food concepts that have impressed both Asia and the world. We look forward to bringing the restaurant community together in this dynamic city to celebrate the very best of gastronomy."

Yang Ju-pil, Director-General of Food Industry Policy Bureau, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said: "We are delighted to host the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants event for the second consecutive year. We hope this event will serve as a platform to showcase Korea's diverse ingredients and talented chefs to further promote the growth of the Korean restaurant industry."

Kim Young-hwan, Director General of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Tourism and Sports Bureau, said: "Building on the success of this year's event, we look forward to hosting Asia's 50 Best Restaurants again next year and showcasing Seoul's unique cuisine to the world. Seoul is more than ready to offer visitors diverse experiences. By hosting this event again, we hope to promote Seoul as a global food destination and attract many more tourists to enjoy the city's flavourful charm."

The programme in Seoul will include a series of events that form the core of the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants celebrations. These include the thought-provoking #50BestTalks - a forum exploring important issues in hospitality and society; the 50 Best Signature Sessions - a series of collaborative dining events open to the public, where the 50 Best Chefs will team up with acclaimed local talent for exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime experiences; the Chefs' Feast, showcasing Seoul's finest culinary creations and local ingredients; and a media roundtable entitled "Meet the Chefs". The countdown and the awards ceremony itself will round off the exciting programme of events.

Special prizes and the 51-100 list

Prior to the live awards ceremony, a series of pre-announced awards will be presented to honour notable establishments across Asia. These awards go through a careful selection process and are designed to highlight both emerging and established restaurants and individuals in the region.
These include:

  • Asia's Best Female Chef Award, chosen by the 350+ members of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an opportunity to honour women in the restaurant industry who continue to push the boundaries of excellence through their skills, expertise and artistry.
  • Art of Hospitality Award, voted by the 350+ members of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants Academy, recognising excellence in restaurant service and culinary experience
  • One To Watch Award, recognising restaurants that demonstrate the gastronomic excellence, innovation and culinary potential to enter the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants ranking in the coming years

The expanded list of 51-100 establishments will also be announced prior to the awards ceremony and is the result of the entire voting process. It emphasises 50 Best's commitment to promoting the diversity of talent in the Asian culinary landscape and offers visitors a wider selection of establishments to discover.
