New star record in the Michelin Guide
32 countries set new star records
The Michelin Guide has awarded a total of 3,589 restaurants with one or more stars in its restaurant guides for 2024. This is a new record and represents an increase of 2.7 per cent compared to the Guide's 2023 predictions. This means that the increase in the number of Michelin-starred restaurants has slowed down - in 2023, the number had grown by 4.5 per cent. In 32 of the 43 countries in which the Michelin Guide rates restaurants, the number of Michelin-starred restaurants was at a record level in the 2024 editions. This is also due to the expansion of the Michelin Guide to other regions and cities in 2024. However, the number of Michelin-starred restaurants fell in Denmark, the UK, Japan, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Singapore. The 2024 editions were published between mid-2023 and December 2024. At the same time, Guide MIchelin has been publishing restaurant ratings for 2025 for some countries since the summer.
The number of three-star restaurants has increased by 2.1 per cent to 146 in the guides for 2024. There are now 148 three-star restaurants. The number of two-star restaurants in the 2024 guides has fallen by 0.8 per cent to 489 compared to the previous year. This trend appears to be continuing, with only 488 two-star restaurants currently remaining. The number of one-star restaurants has risen by 3.4 per cent to 2,954 in the 2024 editions compared to the previous year. The Michelin Guide currently rates 2,962 restaurants with one star.
