Jonas Zörner becomes the new Adlon head chef

Berlin

GOLVET head chef takes over from Reto Brändli in the Lorenz Adlon dining room

BERLIN. Gourmets and lovers of the multi-award-winning gourmet restaurant Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer can breathe a sigh of relief, as the search for a successor to Reto Brändli has led to a new and first-time Berlin-born chef for the gourmet jewel in the shape of ambitious creative chef Jonas Zörner.

Brändli, to whom the team at the legendary Hotel Adlon Kempinski is grateful for his three years of commitment, which has been recognised by many awards, will return to his native Switzerland next year for a new professional challenge. From there, Zörner also brings valuable top industry experience from his time in Zurich at Heiko Nieder's The Restaurant at the renowned Dolder Grand Hotel, which refined his previous chef training at Berlin's two-star restaurant Facil with this international expertise. The birth of his son brought Zörner back to Berlin, where he successfully brought his expertise to Facil for a further two years. When he got to know the GOLVET with its open kitchen high above the rooftops of the capital, he enthusiastically seized the opportunity and, starting as Chef de Partie, worked his way up to the position of Junior Sous-Chef followed by a quick promotion to Sous-Chef to become Head Chef of the innovative restaurant in just a few years. He has been able to confirm his Michelin star here every year since 2021, was named Berlin Master Chef in 2022 and was nominated for Emerging Chef of the Year by the trade magazine Der Feinschmecker in the same year.

"We are delighted to have gained another successful, up-and-coming culinary talent and an equally impressive leader for our team at the Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer in Jonas Zörner," says Karina Ansos, Managing Director of the famous hotel icon. "Promoting young, committed up-and-coming talent in all areas of the hotel has always been a matter close to our hearts in our service-orientated industry and remains one of our recipes for success to this day. Jonas Zörner can live out his full creative potential with us and make his own mark. His quality awareness and single-minded passion for his profession, which is evident in his culinary skills, make us certain that he will continue the success story of our gourmet restaurant and shape it anew with his exciting variety of ideas."

The 31-year-old discovered his love of the culinary arts at an early age, when he was eleven years old and explored the seemingly endless flavour combinations of food and aromas for the first time alone at the cooker, compiling them into recipes, tasting them with fascination and developing them further. Later, kitchen internships in some of the world's top restaurants, such as VAU under the direction of celebrity chef Kolja Kleeberg, intensified his interest in the world of gastronomy. Today, the promotion of ideas is also important to him among his employees, whose creativity enriches the development of new dishes and brings joint success, which for Jonas Zörner is always a team effort in the kitchen.

"Becoming head chef at such a prominent establishment with such successful predecessors is a special honour and at the same time an incentive for me to want to fulfil the high expectations," says the highly motivated star chef. "The Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer offers me the opportunity to contribute my expertise under excellent conditions in an internationally recognised team and to develop it further at the highest level. I'm looking forward to this exciting journey and have lots of ideas in my luggage."

In tandem with Maître Oliver Kraft and the experienced service team at Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer - including Head Sommelier Hans-Martin Konrad, who has just been voted one of Germany's fifty best sommeliers by the Rolling Pin Convention - guests can look forward to new culinary highlights in the luxurious Adlon ambience with Jonas Zörner from 12 February 2025 after the winter break.
