Restaurant Florio opens at The Charles Hotel

Rocco Forte brings the essence of the Dolce Vita to Munich

MUNICH. The Charles Hotel has opened the new restaurant "Florio" on the premises of the former Sophia's. Like the restaurants at Villa Igiea in Sicily and Hotel de Russie in Rome, it is another restaurant that is characterised by the philosophy of Italian culinary icon Fulvio Pierangelini, who acts as Creative Director of Food for the Rocco Forte Group.
Accordingly, Florio Munich serves uncomplicated but sophisticated cuisine that is characterised by the use of very selectively chosen, high-quality products and whose dishes are simple but prepared to perfection. As the focus is equally on sourcing regional products, the menu varies seasonally and, in addition to absolute signature dishes such as artichoke alla Romana, always offers new dishes characterised by the harvest of the respective season.

Lydia Forte, who as Group Director of Rocco Forte Hotels for Food & Beverage has played a decisive role in shaping the Florio restaurant concept, says: "I am delighted to be opening Florio for the first time outside Italy and can think of no better location than Munich, where Italian culture and cuisine are so appreciated. I think the local market will embrace our authentic and high quality version of the La Dolce Vita experience, which is based on more than a decade of the best Italian cuisine, attentive service and welcoming atmosphere at Hotel de Russie in Rome and also offered at Villa Igiea in Palermo."

Florio is not just about excellent Italian food, it is much more an attitude to life and a place where life can be enjoyed to the full in good company. A place that invites you to take a break from everyday life and spend time with friends and family. Hours will fly by as you sit down to Fulvio Pierangelini's culinary creations and a glass from the carefully curated, all-Italian wine list and feel like you're on holiday in Italy or watching one of the iconic Italian films of the 50s and 60s that shaped the spirit of dolce vita.

Fulvio Pierangelini says about the spirit of Florio: "Florio is an attitude, a lifestyle and captures a special mood. It is a way of imagining the Italian lifestyle, an attempt to capture a moment in the great history of Italian cuisine and bring it to Munich. With Florio, I want to offer a cuisine that is timeless and unbound, but with a contemporary approach. It is an expression of savoir-faire, independent of stereotypes and trends."

Moss-green linen wallpaper and the silvery olive trees in the light-flooded rooms of the restaurant, together with the prints of drawn plants and fruits, are a reference to its neighbour, the Old Botanical Garden. Round benches with upholstery in rust tones and the warm brown colour of the walnut tables emphasise the relaxed, glamorous ambience of the restaurant, which is rounded off by the courteous and charming service team.
