Nancy Großmann moves to the Grill Royal

BERLIN: Great joy at Grill Royal Berlin! From 16 September 2024, renowned sommelier Nancy Großmann will be joining the team at the legendary restaurant in Berlin's Friedrichstraße. The 39-year-old has already been honoured as "Sommelière of the Year" several times in recent years: 2024 as part of the Falstaff Wine Trophy, 2023 by gourmet magazine Der Feinschmecker, 2021 by Gault & Millau and 2019 by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung. She also achieved first place on the list of the "50 Best Sommeliers" at the Rolling Pin Gastro Awards 2023.

Before moving to Grill Royal Berlin, Großmann worked for almost seven years as Head Sommelière at Berlin's Rutz Restaurant, which has been awarded three Michelin stars. Before that, the IHK-certified sommelière gained experience at Storstad Vinbaren at Anton Schmaus in Regensburg, at the Berlin wine shop Schmidt, at the Munich restaurant Dallmayr and at the Käfer Dachgarten Restaurant in the German Bundestag.

At Grill Royal Berlin, the Berlin native now joins the sommelier team under the leadership of head sommelier Nikolaus Laurentius, which also includes Pauline Pérou, Alessandro Toscani and Anna-Patricia Schilling. Together, the five wine enthusiasts are responsible for a wine list with more than 2,300 items. The focus is on wines from the Old World, in particular Germany, France and Italy. In addition to the world's major wine and champagne houses, the list also includes many smaller wineries that are rarely or never found elsewhere. In order to find these often unknown but all the more exciting establishments, the sommelier team regularly goes on wine trips throughout Europe. Over time, this has resulted in strong personal relationships with the winemakers, many of which have existed for more than ten years. Training sessions within the team are also an integral part of the five experts' daily routine. With its large selection and immense range of wines, the restaurant presents a variety that is unrivalled in Germany.

Nancy Großmann is looking forward to her new role at Grill Royal Berlin and says: "It was time for me to take on a new challenge and gain new experience. But not just anywhere, but in the right place. I've known the people at Grill Royal for many years - through private visits, but also through joint tastings and wine trips. What I particularly like here, apart from one of the best wine lists in Germany, is the consistency of the team. The place just feels right to me and I'm looking forward to immersing myself in this world and working with such wonderful wines and people."
