Double honours for Gerhard Wieser and the Trenkerstube

The chef with two stars now "chef of 2014" in Italy

Gerhard Wieser was voted "Chef of 2014" in Italy by the Große Restaurant Guide (otherwise known as "The Bertelsmann Guide") and the restaurant guide Bibenda 2014 nominated the Trenkerstube "Ristorante dell'anno 2014". As if the 10th anniversary of the Trenkerstube this year was not enough for Gerhard Wieser to celebrate. Along with Michelin, GaultMillau and Feinschmecker this guide is considered the most important German-language restaurant guide. It awards from one to five-plus toques. Wieser and the Trenkerstube with their five toques are in the top listings and, indeed, occupy an exclusive position in South Tyrol. It should be noted that the guide evaluates 1,700 restaurants, 20,000 wines and 1,700 wineries throughout Italy. For Wieser these honours are important for they not only confirm his personal efforts but also work as a statement on the quality of a region. He reckons that the more awards the South Tyrolean businesses and chefs glean the more guests will perceive South Tyrol as being of high quality. And it is this last point which reigns supreme for Gerhard Wieser, despite all honours.
