 HÖRNUM. When the days are short and the nights long that is when the gourmet island of Sylt experiences one of its magical moments full of stars. From 2nd to the 5th November 2013 BUDERSAND Hotel – Golf & Spa – Sylt hosts the 3rd Festival Of Stars – a high-profile event of indulgence that has a acquired a name well beyond the shores of the island. Indeed, this year KAI3 chef de cuisine, Jens Rittmeyer, has invited even more master chefs to Hörnum. At the festival he will present his own personal recommendations from German and European top kitchens. Fifteen chefs will be turning the hotel BUDERSAND into a stage for the very best in culinary delights and with their collective 25 Michelin stars will cause a regular shower of shooting stars over Sylt.

Jens Rittmeyer has gain succeeded in setting up a top-class programme – and also to provide a few surprises. The very first day of the festival marks an absolute highlight as the complete squad of Sylt’s Michelin starred chefs come together to cook at one event:  Holger Bodendorf from Restaurant Bodendorf’s in Landhaus Stricker, Tinnum (1 star), Johannes King from Söl‘ring Hof in Rantum (2 stars), Jörg Müller, owner of the restaurant and hotel of the same name in Westerland (1 star), Alexandro Pape, chef de cuisine in the restaurant Fährhaus in Munkmarsch (2 stars) and Sebastian Zier from Restaurant La Mer in A-Rosa
Resort in List (2 stars) along with mine host Jens Rittmeyer (1 star) will be preparing an unusual walking brunch. “We are greatly looking forward to this first opportunity to cook together with our island colleagues. Which just shows that the passion for cooking does indeed create a strong bond“, as Jens Rittmeyer says. On Saturday 2nd November from 11 o’clock till 2 o’clock at a selection of cooking modules the chefs will be preparing samples of the brilliant variety and high culinary quality available on Sylt. The guests can potter from module to module, chat with the chefs and enjoy the choice delicacies. In addition there will be a buffet with Hotel BUDERSAND breakfast classics available. The 9 star brunch with the Sylt signature will be accompanied by noble champagne from Billecart-Salmon. Delights from European top chefs After the summit meeting of the Sylt top chefs the event continues brilliantly with an international touch in the evening. In the evening of 2nd November 2013 Rolf Fliegauf, head chef at Ristorante Ecco in the elegant Hotel Giardino in Ascona (2 stars) along with the Giardino Mountain Lodge in St. Moritz (2 stars) will honour the island of Sylt – thereby adding a further 4 stars to the festival firmament. und heftet damit insgesamt weitere vier Sterne ans
Festivalfirmament. The Knipser vineyard will be presenting their excellent Palatinate wines. One of the top ten in Germany’s list of illustrious gastronomy will be celebrating his appearance in the evening of Sunday 3rd November 2013: Klaus Erfort, head chef and owner of GästeHaus Klaus Erfort in Saarbrücken, distinguished with 3 stars, and will ensure unforgettable culinary moments. French wines from Domaine de l’Horizon will underline the flavours. The Monday evening (4th November) is dedicated to Oranje when Jacob Jan Boerma from restaurant De Leest in Vaassen (2 stars) presents top cuisine from The Netherlands. The accompanying wines will be from the Kollwentz vineyard in Austria. With the big finale on Tuesday evening, 5th November, the Festival Of the Starscomes to an end. The closing menu “Rittmeyer & Friends”, meanwhile a permanent feature of the festival, combines facets of flavour from around Germany and Europe – in the classiest way. On the list of chefs can be found the host Jens Rittmeyer, along with the British head cook Adam Simmonds from the restaurant of the same name in Danesfield House in Marlow (1 star), André Tienelt from Sendig in Hotel Elbresidenz Bad Schandau (1 star), the Portuguese top chef José Cordeiro from Feitoria Restaurante & Wine Bar in the Lisbon Altis Belém Hotel (1 star), Thomas Macyszyn from Navette in the Columbia-Hotel Rüsselsheim (1 star) and also the female star guest of the festival, the Swiss Tanja Grandits from Stucki in Basel who has defended her two stars with her creative aroma cuisine. Gerald Zogbaum from the Hanseatic city of Hamburg and the Kitchen Workshop (Küchenwerkstatt) where he also has defended his star for several years now, completes the sumptuous concert. “The Five Friends From the Palatinate” (the vineyards Becker, Münzberg, Rebholz, Siegrist and Wehrheim) ensure the accompanying wine enjoyment.
As in years past the Festival Of the Stars will be presented by Hendrik Thoma. As one of only three Master Sommeliers in Germany he is an expert when it comes to topics about wine and delight. With a lot of wit and a seemingly endless fund of background knowledge he will be commenting on the evening functions of the festival.
The BUDERSAND Hotel - Golf & Spa - Sylt has put together attractive festival packages available for the period from 1st to 7th November. When participating in four or more festival events there will be a 10% reduction of the price of the room. This means that four nights in a double room can be reserved for € 1,120, including a private bar in the room, generous breakfast buffet from 7 o’clock till midday, use of the spa and free internet access. For those who make their personal star arrangement before 31st September 2013 will be rewarded with a further 10% reduction. These reductions will continue to be valid should the stay be extended.
